Somewhere near Venlo, about 1 minute from the German border..in a few weeks I have a sort of a "race" against a friend of mine. He just got his new 185 BHP 400+NM Volvo S60 D5 diesel...

I'm hoping to beat him 0-100... I'm guessing I'll only see his behind as soon as we cross the German border to go flat out.... :)

Nope, they're sold out. Fortunately I have one "1.6i-VT" decal and one "VTEC" (wich is located under "Civic" on the rear garnish in spare, in case anything happens to my rear...

I do have one "Civic VTEC" rear garnish for sale, in MINT condition... Check my items for sale!

@ eugenk: thanks!

@Mr. Svonda: Yeah Sven, I know what you mean. I also had an EE9 as a first car, had to part it out because nobody would buy her :(

It's been a long time since I posted something here. A lot of work has been done in the past few weeks by Marc, Ewald, Robin and myself.

Here's the first part of the story... Thanks guys!!!!!!

Project EE8 dash into EE9 swap, Acces light up garnish install, EF9 folding mirrors install

This is how we started 3 weeks ago at 8 o'clock in the morning: nice and sunny, perfect weather for some work on a car, MY car

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/8201/img5002my0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Ewald was there too early in the morning, that took him a 2hr drive!

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/7287/img5004lr6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Marc came all the way from Den Haag, he had some plans for cleaning and waxing the new dashboard...

http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/226/img5003qv7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/2681/img5005re9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The donor CRX VTEC... this car now belongs to Ewald, he is going to restore in in the next few years.

http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9864/img5006fa8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The masters@ work.....

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/6582/img5007nq8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7939/img5009or3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

More to come....

The saga continues....

This is how we started: EE9 dash without centre console, speaker covers and front seats.

http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/5702/img5011ni0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The result after the first day: No seats, no dash due to unforseen extra work we needed to do in order to get the complete EE8 dash to function correctly. So I put my baby back to sleep for 3 weeks (untill past saturday) and the story continues from there... Judging from the pictures it may seem that we didn't do anything that day, but the opposite is true :)

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/8367/img5013mg9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/1078/img5015sc7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

So past fridaynight I got the car out of it's shelter again. I took off the doorcards, and the snap-off hub with the steering wheel (done after taking these pic's). This way all was ready to start the work on saturday.

http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/923/img5098lm9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/4305/img5099sa6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/663/img5100ne7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

As you can see it was still a little dark when we started saturday morning...

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/7743/img5101sb6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Here you see Ewald swapping the under-dash harness from the Civic dash to the CRX dash.

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/9031/img5119vz8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

As you can see Ewald was very confident by showing the "thumbs-up" :)

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8584/img5120dt4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Here you can see that we removed the "EE9 cable-heater-motor" and the duct that connects the motor with the unit in the centre-console itself.

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2870/img5122dw8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Here you see Ewald creating a new harness for the EF9 folding mirrors:

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/6898/img5123jq4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/9366/img5125bb3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Robin had arrived in the meantime and was inspecting the "EE8 electronic-heater-motor"

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1526/img5124lm8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/3555/img5126wc3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Genuine craftsmen doing their thing in a perfect way and still having the time to be a smartass, don't you Robin?

http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/1645/img5127oj3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/43/img5128tw5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Taken from the outside of the car through the front windscreen:

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8435/img5129bm2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Quite some work under the hood had to be done also:

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6813/img5130xp1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Robin connecting the wires....and a lot of wires there were!

EE8 DASH y00000000000000000000!!!!

Mounting the cluster:

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/4466/img5146qt7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The in-car result so far. Still to do: mount the doorcards, mount the centre-console, mount the e-brake coverand mount the passengers-seat.

http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/5021/img5147lg7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The cluster:

Piece of the dashboard with the clock and the EE8 control unit:

http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/7572/img5155na1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Last but not least: EF9 folding mirrors y000000000000000000000000

http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/1858/img5162on9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Finally I really want to express my gratitude to Ewald, Robin and Marc for helping me out (and in some parts of the swap doing all the work!) We had quite a few laughs and it's always very nice to look back on work wich has been done so thoroughly. Like Ewald and Robin put it at one moment while both laying upside-down and inside-out in the car in order to be able to do all the work on the main harness: this is at least OEM Honda quality, or better! It's a great feeling to know that everything has been done in the most perfect possible way!!

Thanks again guys!!!!!

Thanks for the compliment! The A-pillar supports were imported from Japan by a friend of mine in the time he had is own EE8. I bought them from him when he sold his car.....

Had my baby Dyno'd yesterday:

We even had to do a third run (first run is to calculate the "loss", second one is for the actual measurement). Since I never had reached the rev. limiter of teh Spoon ECU I didn't knew at what point it was.
In order not to damage my engine we decided to stop the "second" run at 8500 RPM at the cluster and what we noticed was really cool: normally a B16A1 engine loses all it's power around 7800 RPM. My curve kept going steady untill we stopped at 8500 cluster-RPM. So we talked it through and decided to do another run until 8700 cluster-RPM. And guess what: still no power-crash!

Conclusion: I need stiffer valve-springs!!!!!!

Small update:

Recently purchased parts:

Finally my Autometer triple gauge cluster pad came in, so this will be mounted shortly I hope (Thanks again Taner!)
OEM Honda EK4 wheels with some new Toyo T1R's (mounted)

Last night I ordered some Takata extended bolts and reinforcement plates for safely mounting my harnesses, once these arrive they can go in! Should be a week or 3. Oh, and some Ferodo DS2500 pads for the ITR brakes...
ITR intake manifold with Edelbrock 62mm throttle body

I also cleaned the car under the hood, and in all other parts of the car where you normally don't get to... A lot of work, but the result is very cool, and noticable!!

Upcoming things to do:

Order a new OEM front license plate locator, since this one isn't as perfect as I want it to be.
Mount the gauge pad and connect the gauges.
Finally mount the rear upper strut bar, the fender braces and both the lower tie bars
Mount my new OEM Honda radiator
Change the oil and mount the Spoon magnetic oil plugs (wich I need to order, I keep forgetting those!)

When all this is done, it'll probably be the end of the summer and then Martin from Hontec will start working on the 5-lug conversion!

After that: new suspension and the roll-cage.

Well, the car is back on it's feet.
But, let's start a few weeks ago. After all the machining, sandblasting and coating, it was time to put things together.
So we started with the Energy Suspension Poly Urethane bushes, which is in fact a very easy job! Except the upper shock bushings. These were really way to thick. We machined them down so they would fit perfectly. And the bushes for the rear LCA's were to thin. When you buy a Master Kit from ES, it says you have 2 different types of rear LCA bushes, and indeed, the wrong ones come with the kit. So 2 options, leave them and buy new ones that fit, or make it fit. So, my dad machined a bunch of stainless steel bushes, we pressed them into the LCA's, and afterwards the PU bushings.
Almost to nice to assemble:

Goodridge stainless steel brake lines:

Me sorting out why it won't fit:

Rear LCA's:

Last Sunday, I went to Marcell's garage to help him placing the “new” suspension on his splendid EE9. We started @ around 9:30, and closed the door @ 21:30. With mixed feelings though, at least i did.
Let me put it this way, over a week ago, we thought everything was ok. We finished the hats, placed the rotors, measured things out, put all the parts together, and there was a very cool looking right front knuckle. But when we took de JDM ITR rim, and placed it on the knuckle, there was a moment of silence...
The rim laid right on the caliper...holy f*ck! Nobody expected this, we sort of forgot the sick ET of the rim. This meant my dad had to make completely new hats, and brackets, another week of long days were waiting for us. By Wednesday the new hats were ready, so the brackets could be made.
You can see the clearance between the rotor and the knuckle here:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_1110-border.jpg

By mounting the brackets on the other side of the knuckle, we made more space for the caliper. Also the aluminium brackets could be made thinner, but that was not enough for us. We ALWAYS ensure safety, so we made titanium threaded bushes, which were placed in the brackets. This makes a stronger thread, and is very longlasting.
Titanium
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_1113-border.jpg

Making the brackets:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_1118-border.jpg
Bracket on knuckle, it used to be on the other side:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_1134-border.jpg
In the mean time, the clock was ticking, so it was Friday evening when the first caliper was ready to be taken care of. The moulded bracket on the caliper was way to thick, so we had to take 10mm of it. When it was 00:30, the right side was finished, and ready to be mounted. That Saturday we had other important things to do, so all the works had to be done that night, and yes, we made it.
The caliper:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_1128-border.jpg
So last Sunday, i stuffed the EE8 full with 2 complete knuckles, some tools and one JDM ITR rim and headed for Marcell's garage.
We began with cleaning some stuff, and after that, there was the next obstacle...placing new bushes in the compensator arm. Damn, that was a very hard fight, i wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Buy a toe-kit, or a complete new compensator arm, which is just a little more expensive. We allready sandblasted and coated the old ones, so we choose for four new bushes.
At first we began mounting the trailing arms, the new KW coilovers and Goodridge brake lines. This all was no problem but to be honest, we had some difficulties with the trailing arm. But after playing with the compensator arms, and the big trailing arm bushings, everything fitted perfectly.
Right rear trailing arm:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_2617-border.jpg
Added the coilover and brake line:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_2614-border.jpg
Next up were the front knuckles, Marcell placed them, and i lead the brake lines the correct way, connected them and placed the coilovers.
Starting to look like something:

Brrrrrrrrr:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_2620-border.jpg
By then it was evening, and we started thinking about starting the B16, and take it for a cautious spin, but there was more to do.
I poured some Motul RBF 600 fluid into the system, and after about 5 minutes of hard labour by Marcell pressing the brake pedal, the fluid showed up at the right rear ITR caliper. Went around the car 2 times bleeding the brakes, and when i was certain there was no more air in the system, we tightened the spindle nuts.
Come on, put the wheels on:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_2628-border.jpg
Almost done, now we took the very nice rims, placed them on the car, checked everything twice, time to go.
This is it:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh91/HaRdCoRe-WeZ/img_2634-border.jpg
Marcell dropped the car back on it's feet, DAMN! That thing is LOW! After a few minutes the springs were settled, and yes, it looks MORE than stunning. Not like anything i had expected to be honest. Marcell started the B16, and we cleaned the garage, took some tools (just in case) and put them in a big box. Box in the back of the car, sit down, strapped ourselves in, Marcell put it in 1st gear, let of the clutch a little, a tad of throttle, and......................nothing.
Holy crap...the car did come of is place, by just a few centimeters, with a strange rumble through the car. Something wrong. Jacked the car up, everything is clear, brakes come off easy, no scraping or whatsoever. Hmmmm, car back to the ground, i tried to take off, but no, still the same sound.
By then Marcell jacked the car up again, got rid of the handbrake levers, and we tried it again, but still no improvement...this was not good.
After a few phonecalls, and a lot of thinking, Marcell looked a bit further, and his reaction was like:”Oh no, please tell me this is a joke.”
On the inner side of the rotor we saw 2 scratches. Ok, what was scraping there? We thought it was a bolt which holds the caliper to the knuckle, but i couldn't imagine HOW that could be the case when the car is on the floor, and not when it's airborne...strange huh?
We were tired, and i still had to drive a bit, so we decided to leave it this way, and think about it. By the time i got home, i told the story to my dad, and he said that we should check the steering ball joints. You see, when the car is jacked up, the wheels are free, and the camber is somewhere between 0 and 2 degrees of POSITIVE camber. But when the car is on the ground, and with this kind of lowering, the camber will be between 3 and 4 degrees NEGATIVE. He was on the right way i must say, cause later i spoke Marcell, he checked it again, and told me that the steering ball joints were absolutely free of scraping. He thought of another ball joint, the lower one which connects the front LCA and the knuckle. And i just could'nt disagree. The LCA is scraping the rotor slightly, there is absolutely nothing else that even could be the cause.
So, the next thing is loosen up the ball joint, and remove a little from the LCA. And btw, Marcell is not only good at dismantling cars, he can build them too!!!
Oehhhhhhh, SEXY!

The new setup.

Engine:

B16B, 30.000km
-Buddyclub Spec IV cams
-Skunk2 Pro camgears
-Supertech retainers and valvesprings
-TODA Racing header
-Edelbrock Performer-X IM with 68mm TB (At this moment I still have a Skunk2 Pro IM with Skunk2 68 TB: this is for sale!!!!!)
-Hondata IM-gasket
-TODA racing cambelt
-Spoon clutch, flywheel and thermostat (currently fitted on the A1)
-P28 ECU, tuned by Sneaky Tuning
-New OEM Honda Type R valvecover
-All rubbers, gaskets, nuts and bolts will be replaced with new OEM Honda items.

Transmission:
-JDM S1 cable-tranny (shorter ratio's)
-Quaife LSD
-All synchro's and bearings will be replaced by new OEM Honda parts (Thanks HONTEC)

Handling:

-Mount all 4 strutbars
-FINALLY mount the fender braces
-Swap the Toyo's for Falken Azenis semislicks. I am experiencing a lack of grip when braking hard (and that is o so much fun to do!!), plus this will improve the handling all around.

My report of last sunday:

This is how we started, I already removed the front bumper, filler-piece, headlights, running lights and the T-piece.

It's a huge amount of work, and slowly we're getting there. We decided to do all things perfect the first time, so that's why it takes longer now, and that's also one of the reasons why I unfortunately couldn't make it to the Nurburgring meeting past July.

But I'll be back!!!!

Thanks guys!!

Update: instead of rebuilding the car, we are only taking it further apart! :-) Car will be fully restored, and modified "a little more" ;-) People who know me know what this means.

First, some updates on work we did before.

Tilton brake bias adjuster:
Test fit:

Welding the bracket:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v94/D-Rex/Marcell%20EE9/Marcell_10.jpg
I lost a whole lot of pictures of all other things that have been done to the car. First thing to do is get the car ready for transport so that it can go to the company that will weld in the roll-cage.
More to come in a week or 2.

http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab101/randallenabe/EE9/EE9020.jpg

Started fitting the dash. This is a dash that was going to be thrown away, so we used it as a testfit dash. The corners where the dash meets the windshield/rollcage will be filled with steel structures and filled out so that everything lines up nicely with no gaping holes but flush with the chassis..
