Hi everybody,
Could you please help me with the specification of the valve clearence of H22A8 (200hp, red cover) of my Prelude (BB8, 1999)?
This information should be in the workshop manual of the european model of Prelude as this engine was only sold in Europe.
Sorry but here (in Portugal), the Honda dealers refuse to give this basic information and also to sell the workshop manual.
Thank you in advance.
Cris

On my Workshop-Manual there are only H22A4, A5 and A6.
On this Engine the clearence is on Cold Engine:

Intake: 0,15-0.19 mm
Exhaust: 017-0.21

I think on H22A8 its the same.

My doubts are coming from the differences that exist between let's say the USDM H22A4 or EDM H22A5 and my engine (H22A8).
It seems that H22A8 is closer to Accord Type R engine (H22A7) or JDM H22A Type S or SiR S-Spec then european H22A5 or americam H22A4.
But, I could agree that if I shall desover that H22A7 has the same, mine also has it (with a reasonable error) as all 5th Gen H22Ax has it (except japonese engine for which there is not coherent information available, at least not in english, french, portuguese and spanish).
Thanks any way for your information.

Nobody has a 5th Generation Prelude (1997+) service manual where could be found the specification that I need (valve clearence) and 2 minutes available to write it down and help me?

The Valve-Clearing i told you are from the original Honda BB6-8-Workshop-Manual. So nobody (except Honda Europe) would have another Data which are from a Workshopmanual.

Many thanks Kevin, but you told me that the specification is for H22A4,5,6 and that you are beliving that for H22A8 is the same. What I am trying to do is to know for sure (from a manual which cover my engine H22A8) if it is this one or not and I already try to explain my reasons of the uncertainity.
Once again thank you very much as you have been very kind and try to help me.

The Manual that I have is the only Manual or the Prelude BB6-8 in Germany. There is no other Available.

And I think that the Vallve-Clearence is similar to the H22A4,5,6.

If you want, make the clearence a bit larger (+ 0,05 mm) so you are on the save-Side.

I understand, but I am surprised because as far as I know Prelude has been sold in Germany also with the H22A8 engine (200 hp, red cover) from 1999, same as all over the Europe.
If I shall not get any other information I shall proceed with the adjustment based on the valve clearence for H22A4,5,6.
I think that the saif solution that you are proposing (+0,05mm) has the big disadvantage of loosing power/torque in low/ medium range (for me is bad as I am using it as every day car) and more clicking noise (I am paranoid with car noises).

When you have 0,05 mm more Valve-Clearence the Noise will not be much more. An the less of Torque you will not notice.

Perhabs the A8 is in an Addition vor the Workshopmanual.

Hat jemand den Nachtrag für BB6-8 aus dem Bj. 99?
