Honda to Discontinue Production of the NSX Sports Car
—Successor sports car now in development—

TOKYO, Japan, July 12, 2005 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that it will discontinue production of the NSX, a vehicle that has enjoyed considerable popularity as pure sports car and won many fans worldwide. Honda is currently working on a successor, a new sports car for a new era, which is to incorporate Honda’s most advanced technology.

    NSX

The NSX made its debut in 1990 as a genuine mid-engine sports car with an all-aluminum monocoque body—a world’s first for a production vehicle at the time. The NSX continued to evolve, with performance improvements including increased displacement, a 6-speed manual transmission, enhanced aerodynamic performance, and different tire sizes, along with the addition of the NSX Type-T open-top model and the NSX Type-R pure sports model with further enhanced driving performance. One of the first true sports cars to adopt clean emissions measures, the NSX succeeded in combining exhilarating driving performance with superior environmental performance. As a result, the NSX achieved total worldwide sales of more than 18,000* units during the 15 years it was in production.

Even after NSX production draws to a close, Honda will continue to foster an environment supportive of NSX owners and their enjoyment of their cars, through meticulous maintenance of NSX vehicles, a Refresh Plan to preserve vehicles in their optimum condition, and the continuing support of NSX Owners’ Meetings to assist owners who wish to enhance their driving skills.

Production of vehicles destined for the North American market will be discontinued at the end of December, 2005. Production of vehicles destined for the European market will be discontinued at the end of September, 2005.
*As of the end of June 2005

Last 12 UK Supplied Honda NSX

The last 12 NSX supplied in the UK on 15 November 2005. Honda announced the end of production and dealers were advised as follows:

Honda Motor Company announced on June 12 2005 that it will discontinue NSX production later this year. When the NSX was launched in 1990 it was the world’s first mid-engine car with an all-aluminium monocoque body. World Press praised the suspension and handling characteristics which were designed with the help and expertise of the late Ayrton Senna. It was the first “Sports Supercar” that was easy to drive every day, but which would also be competitive on a race track with some exotic competition. Since its debut in June 1990, the NSX sold 18,000 units worldwide, over 450 which are in the UK.

Following this announcement Honda (UK) is offering NSX enthusiasts a final opportunity to buy a special one-off colour combination.

A total of 12 cars will be imported,

    All are manuals

    Two are NSX-Ts

    Ten are Coupes

Eleven cars will have a unique paint and trim combination, never been sold in the UK before.

All buyers will be invited with their partners to attend a special VIP handover event at Honda’s BAR factory on 15 November (2005) which will be hosted by BAR’s test driver Anthony Davidson.

    They were all manuals:

    NSX

3x Monza Red interior 1 each brown, black, grey

    1x Ascari Red interior Black

2x Silverstone Silver interior 1 each black and blue

2x Berlina Black interior interior 1 each grey and red

1x Long Beach Blue interior grey*

1x Platinum White Peal interior red*

    NSX-T

2x Silverstone Silver interior 1 each of blue and black

Stitching details were also specific to each vehicle with, red, blue, grey and black used

It is understand that in fact there was a 13th car supplied after a mix up with one dealer not processing an order in time, this car is Berlina Black and originally had a tan leather interior but this was replaced by the owner with Connolly black leather.
